With gorgeous city views, a breakfast bar, walk-in closet, and space-saving Murphy bed, this 480-square-foot Upper East Side studio, 440 East 79th St., #16L, is a real find. It’s listed for $525,000.
The living room is a nice size, and has light, natural-looking hardwood floors, and modern white lacquer furniture (which is available for purchase) that some might love for its minimalism, and others might hate for its coldness. The Murphy bed behind the couch is also included in the sale.
But it’s unclear where one can put the couch when the bed is open. Although it logically should face the television, having the sofa directly in front of the closed bed is unwise as it will need to be moved every time you want to go to sleep. It needs a new spot.
The real pièce de résistance in here, though, are those views. The large windows face south, and offer a picture-perfect vista of the city.
The kitchen is fairly large, and although mostly white, lacks an antiseptic quality due to a funky gray-, black- and white-tiled backsplash that lends an air of playfulness to the space. Stainless steel appliances (including a dishwasher and a built-in microwave) match the flush-mounted light. And a granite breakfast bar with two white stools is a great place to sit and sip a cup of chamomile before bed.
The bathroom’s nice, too, with gray and white marble tiles throughout, a dark-wood vanity with lots of storage space, a soaking tub, and tons of mirrors.
And just outside that bathroom is a huge walk-in closet and dressing area, which looks like it might actually be able to fit most of your belongings.
The studio is located in The Gregory House, a co-op building with recently renovated hallways, a full-time doorman, a fitness center, a roof deck, a laundry room, a bike room, an on-site garage, and a live-in super. Maintenance is $920 a month. It’s a short walk to the Q on Second Avenue.
