Kingston is a city in Ulster County, New York, bordered by the Catskill Mountains and the Hudson Valley Region. Settled by the Dutch in 1652 and the one-time capital of New York, Kingston has become a haven of sorts for artists and other creative types in search of cheaper real estate and picturesque vistas for inspiration.

Now, Kingston straddles both worlds. Visitors can enjoy historic landmarks like the colonial Senate House and the Hudson River Maritime Museum, or take a ride on the Catskill Mountain Railroad, a vintage train that travels along five miles of track that once serviced the New York Central Railroad. Meanwhile, Kingston offers up some excellent dining and nightlife, like farm-to-table eatery Wilde Beest, and cocktail spot Stockade Tavern. Kingston is also a quick drive to Woodstock, New York, as well as to New Paltz.

If any of that sounds appealing to you, consider this four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath log cabin at 251 East Ridge Dr., now on the market for $520,000. The house was built in 2008 and has a classic rustic feel, with hardwood floors and a spacious living room with vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a stone fireplace.

The kitchen has stainless steel appliances.

It also has a breakfast bar for casual dining.

There is a separate dining room, with lots of windows.

The carpeted master bedroom, which is located on the first floor, has a walk-in closet and outdoor deck access.

There are his-and-hers sinks in the master bath.

There's a second bedroom on the first floor that looks almost equally spacious.

In addition to a second full bath.

On the second level, there are two more bedrooms.

In addition to a lofted living space with vaulted windows.

And another full bath with a glass-door shower.

The finished basement features a game room with a bar, office space, and radiant heat floors.

It appears the current owners have squeezed an extra bed in here, too

Outdoor space includes a 1,000-square-foot wraparound Trex deck with views of the Hudson Valley all the way to the Berkshire Mountains.

There's a lovely yard, as well.

The house is a 15-minute drive from Kingston proper, and about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from New York City.
