The seaside community of Spring Lake, New Jersey, is a popular summer spot, thanks to its low-key sandy beaches and peaceful boardwalk. The town was once a Victorian-era summer resort, and is full of gorgeous period houses and historic inns. The main beach is Spring Lake Beach, a quiet stretch of sand by a no-frills boardwalk—the largest non-commercial boardwalk in the state, in fact—and dotted with a few pavilions and concession stands. Spring Lake is also close to the beaches at Sea Girt and Belmar, if you need a slight change of scene.

There is more to Spring Lake than the beach, though in the summer it's certainly the main draw. The Spring Lake Community House & Theater is in a beautiful building built back in 1923, and stages Broadway plays and musicals year-round. Spring Lake's Third Avenue is a nice retail stretch, with cute shops and eateries like the Third Avenue Chocolate Shoppe, which serves ice cream in the summer, in addition to charming cafes, swimwear boutiques, and art galleries. The historic inns are also worth a visit even if you're not a guest; Chateau Inn Suites, the Normandy Inn, and the Spring Lake Inn all harken back to Spring Lake's Victorian heyday.

Then, of course, there's the real estate, which includes a mix of multimillion dollar beach houses, bungalows, and historic houses. Consider, for instance, the three-bedroom, two-bath Craftsman ranch at 2121 Edgewood Pl., now on the  market for $1,130,000. The house was built in 1926 and has a handsome covered porch.

There's an open layout living room with French doors and a fireplace.

And a small sunroom surrounded by windows.

Here's a shot of the dining room.

The kitchen has white cabinets and countertops, in addition to a breakfast bar with seating.

Here's one of the bedrooms, which has a ceiling fan and room for multiple beds.

And another bedroom, which it looks like the current owners aren't using.

And one more room.

One of the baths has a combination shower and tub.

There's a little space in the back for al fresco dining.

And a patio with a small yard.

Here's another shot of the exterior and front yard.

The house is about an hour-and-a-half's drive from Manhattan.
